IOD Cyber Security Ambassador - Lumina Technologies

It has just been announced by the Institute of Directors (IoD) that the MD of Lumina Technologies, Richard McBarnet, will be the IoD Ambassador for Cyber Security for Hertfordshire.

As IoD Cyber Security Ambassador, it will be Richard’s job to ensure that all members receive high quality support, and to represent the county’s members. He will be one of a number of specialist ambassadors who will volunteer their time and services to ensure IoD members get a wide range of business support, e.g. legal, marketing, finance, health and wellbeing, small business etc.

The Institute of Directors

One of the key aims of the IoD is to be a representative voice for all businesses, large and small. It campaigns on behalf of business leaders in government and the media; promotes high standards of professionalism through training and coaching; and runs seminars and networking events throughout the UK.

Many people assume the IoD only represents large organisations, which is not the case. The organisation is now keen to show it is concerned with all businesses of all sizes, and to shake off a popular misconception that it has a rather stuffy, old boy’s network type of image. So the IoD has decided to dissolve its regional committees in favour of having specialist ambassadors as a way of bringing its image up-to-date.

The new ambassador

Richard is thrilled to have been chosen as the Cyber Security Ambassador for the IoD. “It is an exciting time for me and I’m very proud to have been recognised for the knowledge and value I can add to companies. On behalf of the IoD I will be promoting good business practice around managing data and security, and as new members join, I want to talk to them and signpost them to the best resources.”

In October, Richard will be hosting a free Breakfast Briefing on ‘Cyber Security – The Who, Why, What and How’. Click here to book your place. Alternatively, if you would like to discuss cyber security or other aspects of IT security now, call us on 01442 500890.
