Everything you wanted to know about GDPR

Due to popular demand, we are hosting an extra Breakfast Briefing about the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

GDPR will come into force on 25 May 2018. Brexit will not affect the commencement of the Regulation, and any company that continues trading with EU companies once the UK has left the EU will be bound by the regulations anyway. So it is crucial that all companies prepare themselves in order to be GDPR compliant by the end of May.

As EU citizens, GDPR will afford us greater privacy and protection against data breaches. But in order to protect ourselves and others, companies need to get to grips with many aspects of it.

In this briefing, Lumina’s MD Richard McBarnet will explain what GDPR means, why we all need to be compliant, and, more importantly, how you can get your organisation ready for the rule changes.

He will answer questions such as:

    • What’s changing
    • What the changes will mean for my company
    • How we can become compliant
    • What our obligations are with regard to third parties
    • How Brexit will impact GDPR in the UK

This event is CPD accredited. Individuals within sectors that need to meet Continuing Professional Development requirements will obtain 1 CPD hour for attendance.

  • Cyber Security – The who, why, what and how

In the UK, 65% of large companies are targeted by hackers, and the average security breach costs a company £36.5k. It is therefore hugely important to understand how to protect your business from a cyber attack.

In our Cyber Security Breakfast Briefing, Richard McBarnet will share key learnings, insights and requirements company owners and directors need to ensure the safety of their IT infrastructure. And with over 20 years of managed IT service provision, he is well placed to explain the who, why, what and how of cyber security.

This event is CPD accredited, and individuals within sectors that need to meet the Continuing Professional Development requirements will obtain 1 CPD hour for attending.

  • Business Continuity Hertfordshire | Lumina Technologies

Business Continuity – How to keep the lights on when everything else goes dark

If the BA fiasco has taught us anything, it’s that it’s absolutely vital to have a workable business continuity plan which can be implemented the moment disaster hits. The cause of BA’s problem is almost irrelevant in comparison with the fall-out from the company’s clear lack of a decent disaster recovery plan – although BA are blaming it on a simple power cut.

The incident is going to have catastrophic repercussions for the company; it’s estimated that it will cost them more than €100m to put things right, shares have plummeted, and – crucially – they have utterly lost the loyalty, trust and goodwill of their customers.

Fingers are being pointed at the company’s excessive cost-cutting in recent years that left them high and dry without an adequate business continuity programme. In a statement, BA reported: “We do have a back-up system, but on this occasion it failed”. Not good enough!

    Don’t be like BA!

Putting a business continuity plan in place now could be the difference between survival and administration. With a workable plan in place, it’s likely that BA passengers would never have known there was any problem at all.

Richard McBarnet will explain the measures you need to take to not only protect your IT system and data, but also get your business back up and running after any kind of interruption to trading, with the minimum loss of time.

  • Taming the Inbox – the impact of email overload

If you don’t keep on top of all the emails in your inbox, you’re in danger of becoming overwhelmed, like one client who had 45,000 unread emails. On average, we’re spending around 650 hours a year reading and replying to emails, which have become a major cause of stress and inefficiency. On average, only 38% of emails are important to our business, so how you deal with emails has a direct effect on your time management and productivity.

In this breakfast briefing, Richard McBarnet will suggest the most effective ways of taming your inbox in order to help you work more efficiently.
